Online Poker at 888 Poker

888poker_website.jpg

Sometimes referred to as Pacific Poker, 888Poker is a popular online poker room offering great service to new and existing players. The software has recently undergone an upgrade and there is also a nice big welcome bonus waiting for all new players who make a deposit.

Online Texas Holdem is of course the biggest and most popular game offered at 888Poker. Several different limits are available starting at a low $.05/$.10 and going up to $75/$150. There are also Omaha and 7 card Stud variations available in all sorts of limits.

888Poker also runs their own in-house events and big tournaments which is a big draw for players and keeps those tables full. The biggest complaint for smaller poker rooms is trouble finding a game, but that isn't something players have to worry about here. There are always hundreds of available games offering sit and go's, ring games, and big multi-table tournaments.

bodog_15_year_anniversary.jpg

Bodog is celebrating their 15th year online with a whole series, 15 days worth to be exact, of poker tournaments ending in a $15,000 freeroll poker tournament taking place on October 15th.

It was 15 years ago that Bodog.com opened its doors to the world and to celebrate this landmark achievement with online poker players, Bodog.com is hosting its 15 Days of Poker Tournament Series, a series of 15 qualifying tournaments culminating with a final freeroll event on Oct. 15 where a group of lucky players will battle it out for a share of a $15,000 prize pool.

"For 15 years, Bodog has been a leader in the online gambling industry, giving players a superior gaming experience while awarding billions in prizes," says Bodog.com Poker Pro David Williams. "And Bodog.com's 15 Days of Poker tournament series gives online poker players a fun and profitable way to celebrate this colossal achievement with Bodog."

The prize pool in each qualifying tournament will be distributed the same way it would be in a regular Bodog tournament, but the top 30% of finishers from each event will earn Tournament Leaderboard Points, which determine who moves on to the 15 Days of Poker Semi Final and the $15,000 Final Tournament.

The Semi Final Tournament will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8:15 pm EST, with the field consisting of those placing in 16th to 115th place on the 15 Days of Poker leaderboard as well as players who have competed in at least 10 qualifying events. The top 15 finishers in the Semi Final earn an automatic entry into the $15,000 Final Tournament. The winner also gets a seat in the weekly Bodog $100,000 Guaranteed online poker tournament, and the remaining top 14 finishers each win a seat in a $100,000 qualifier.

Bodog.com's 15 Days of Poker celebration culminates on Oct. 15 at 8:15 pm EST with the $15,000 Final Tournament. In addition to the top 15 finishers from the Semi Final, the freeroll event will be open to players placing 1 through 15 on the 15 Days of Poker leaderboard and those who competed in at least 15 qualifying tournaments. The $15,000 prize pool will be distributed in usual tournament fashion, and the top 15 finishers will also win T$162 to play in the Bodog $100,000 Guaranteed, held every Sunday at 4:00 pm EST.

Feds Seize Millions, Online Poker Continues

uigea_bad.jpg

In early June, the U.S. government seized more than $30 million from several accounts of payment processors who were acting as middlemen between two online poker rooms, Full Tilt and Poker Stars, and a small portion of players who had accounts with those poker rooms. The seizure was unexpected and there have been no significant updates concerning the government's next move.

Now a payment processor who handled some of those accounts is trying to get back $14 million through a court order that it says the government seized illegaly. The Poker Players Alliance says this is part of the $30 million and is planning to file a motion to participate in the case on the side of the payment processor.

Online Poker is still estimated to be a $16 billion a year industry, with more than half of that coming from players in the United States. What has this latest move accomplished? The poker rooms are still open (and thriving), and players (after a few hiccups) can still withdraw money from their accounts. The government exercised its' power, took some money, but accomplished nothing. Will this happen again and should it simply be considered a way of taxing the poker rooms? Or perhaps the government will realize the futility of its' actions.

What I do know for sure is that the poker rooms are still open and taking bets. Visit either of the two largest poker rooms and feel safe with the knowledge that these poker rooms will always be able to handle your deposits and withdrawals.

Full Tilt Poker in the News

full_tilt_new_website.jpg

Full Tilt has released two new exciting features as well as a whole new Poker Series starting next month. The first new feature is a hand replayer, which is an upgraded version of the Last Hand section accessible inside a poker room, in the top left. Now players and observers can watch the action from previous hands again instead of just reading the plays in the tiny chat box.

Mixed Limit games have been added and have quickly become very popular. There's a special 7-Game Mix combining Limit Hold 'em, Limit Stud Hi-Lo, Limit Razz, Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, Limit Stud, NL Hold 'em, and PL Omaha. Look in the Mixed Games section in Full Tilt's lobby for a full list of the available mixed limit games.

The thirteenth Full Tilt Online Poker Series has also been slated to start on Wednesday, August 5th. This series will feature 25 events just like the last series, and will also include the new mini-FTOPS. Once again, the mini-FTOPS events will have 1/10th the buy-in, but this time the mini tournaments will come after the main FTOPS events, not at the same time as was the case during FTOPS XII.

Each of the tournaments will be hosted by a poker pro and Full Tilt will be running loads of satellite tournaments for each event. Look in the satellites tab in the tournaments section of Full Tilt's lobby for a current list of the satellites available.

world_series_of_poker.jpg

Bodog.com is Back

bodog_logo.jpg

In a positive development for everyone from sports bettors to the operators of Bodog, the company now has the original domain, Bodog.com, back under their control. For several months now players have been redirected to bodoglife.com while the situation has been resolved in the background.

Control of the domain was lost during a legal battle between Bodog and the company that handled their software. While this has in no way affected players betting at Bodog, having the domain back in their hands means that the legal case has been resolved and everyone can move on. Bodog can now spend resources on upgrading their service and perhaps helping to lobby the U.S. government as opposed to fighting for their original domain.

The online poker games available include Texas Hold 'em (NL, PL, and FL), Omaha Hi, Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven Card Stud, and Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo. The stakes vary and should be able to accomodate every player looking for a table to play at, whether it's a ring game or tournament.

Just last week a Loyalty Program was launched which rewards players with points for every hand played, these points can later be converted into cash, used to enter exclusive tournaments, or spent at a new online store run by Pacific Poker.

Unfortunately, Pacific Poker does not accept Americans, but players from the rest of the world are free to create an account and start playing poker in a matter of minutes.

Full Tilt Poker Updates - Don Cheadle and FTOPS

don_cheadle_ftp.jpg

In Full Tilt news, poker players will be seeing a new name in red, actor, human rights activist, and poker player Don Cheadle. Although he hasn't yet won a major tournament Mr. Cheadle has done reasonably well as an amateur player. Because of this he won't be listed as a pro, but rather as a 'Friend of Full Tilt'. Cheadle started the Ante up for Africa events along with Annie Duke and Norman Epstein.

The FTOPS continues, and the good news for players is that a few of the tournaments have been short on players. The reason this is good news is because the tournaments guarantee prize money, and there's always a magic number that, once hit, starts raising the prizes. If that magic number isn't hit then the prizes for a guarantee tournament are much more lucrative for every player in the game because Full Tilt itself is required to fulfill the guarantee, which hasn't been met by tournament fees. There are 14 more events left, take a look at the schedule and either sign up or start playing satellites.
